First Appointment (Intake Interview)
Duration: 1.5-hour

This is your first meeting with us, which consisted of a diagnostic interview and evaluation, which will be referred to as an "intake interview." On the other hand, only some diagnoses can be made during this initial appointment. This first session will assist us in getting a better understanding of you and planning for the services that you will need.
This first appointment is divided into three stages:
  • Intake Interview (35-minutes)
  • Assessment (35-minutes)
  • Consultation (20 minutes)
After the intake interview and basic psychological assessment have been completed, a consultation will take place so we can better understand the next steps to recommend for the client, whether it be further psychological assessment (details of the diagnosis) or treatment or therapy sessions.

Follow up or Review Sessions
After an initial interview, any other sessions are follow-up sessions for either treatment (therapy) or psychological evaluation. Clients who require further psychological assessment begin the therapy sessions after that.

1. Psychological Assessment
Duration: Depending on the symptoms and presenting issues

Psychological assessment is the process of putting a client through different types of psychological tests and observing them to learn more about their skills, abilities, and potential. The client undergoing additional psychological evaluation typically has a neurodevelopmental problem and psychotic symptoms.
The results of the assessment will also be taken into account when making a treatment plan and making suggestions. Appointment sessions typically last at least 1.5 hours (depending on the number of tests) and can sometimes last longer than that. During this session, there are basically two phases:
  • Assessments
  • Feedback session
After a psychological evaluation is done, the client will get feedback, and the results of the evaluation will be discussed during this session. The client may request a complete formal report at an additional cost.

2.Treatment/Therapy Sessions
Duration: 1 hour

The client can choose from a number of recommended therapies that are based on the symptoms they are showing. Treatments like speech and language therapy, sensory integration therapy, and others will be used to help people with neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD, autism, and speech delay. Other psychotherapies, such as cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectic behavioural therapy, and others, will be advised to treat mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and others.

Your child's treatment should be tailored according to their individual needs. You know your child best, so it's up to you to ensure those needs are met. You can do that by asking yourself the following questions: What are my child's strengths and weaknesses? What behaviours are causing the most problems? What essential skill is my child lacking? How does my child learn best through seeing, listening, or doing? What does my child enjoy? How can those activities be used in treatment and to bolster my child's learning?

Basically, you need the first appointment, also known as an intake interview and assessment, which lasts at least 1.5 hours. Before diagnosing and treating a client, it's important to get as much information as possible from this session.

How long the therapy will last?

Depending on the problem, some people see satisfactory change in 6–10 therapy sessions on a weekly basis; others take substantially longer. However, once the client chooses to attend therapy, he or she must be committed to the process, as therapy is about changing the individual for the better.
